Top Five Tanning Products for a Pasty Girl

It’s that time of year again. Every pasty girl or boy worst nightmare: summertime. It’s actually not even summertime yet, but here I am laying out in shorts and a tank top absorbing the rays, praying for the best. I don’t tan naturally. I burn; burn then go right back to pasty. But as I said, naturally. I still enjoy having that bronzed, sun-kissed skin tone. So how do I achieve that? Well, let me fill you in on my top five tanning products!

Now before I begin, I cannot stress enough how important sunscreen is, whether you tan naturally or not. SPF helps fight signs of aging, sun spots, and just keeps your skin protected from those harmful UV rays. The higher the number the better!

Australian Gold Spray Gel Sunscreen with Instant Bronzer

MSRP: $9.99

I really enjoy this product when I am venturing out into the sunshine because it does have an SPF in it. I usually don’t go any lower than 30 because of how fair I am. You’re supposed to apply this product about 15 minutes before you go outside so I begin the application process when I start to get ready to head out. You are also supposed to reapply after about an hour and a half so don’t forget to throw it in your beach bag! It has a slight color guide so it gives you a sun-kissed glow right out of the gate with no staining. It has a beachy, coconut smell that isn’t too bothersome. It’s a good option for when you are outside and want to see some sort of results.

Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Mousse

MSRP: $13.99

I have been a fan of Jergens tanning products for years now. But the one thing that has changed for me, is I very rarely use lotions and almost always going to go for a mousse formula. In my opinion, feel like this formula goes on more evenly and seamlessly. I would always feel like an amateur, streaky mess when using lotions. This product is no exception. It looks great and lasts several days before needing to reapply.

Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse

MSRP: $32-$42

This was the first high-end self-tanning product I ever purchased. It leaves a nice, warm golden tan that would last me around a week before really needing another application. I would recommend this product to anyone with naturally warm or neutral undertones. It is very golden in color. It has a decent smell. I did find that this one does tend to transfer a little bit to clothes and sheets but it will wash out. You can get a subscription and save pricing. Their customer service is also top-notch. They were quick to respond to my emails with any questions or concerns I had and they even replaced products that had been lost in the mail.

Bondi Sands Aero Ultra Dark

MSRP: $29

Bondi Sands is a new one to my collection. It is an interesting formula; similar to a mousse but much lighter and dries very quickly. There was a bit of a learning curve because you do have to work quickly but it does leave a beautiful, natural-looking tan. This one has more of an olive undertone, which I personally prefer. It lasts about a week and fades very evenly and subtly. It has a faint hint of coconut and it applies beautifully with a mitt.

Loving Tan Mousse

MSRP: $39.95

Out of all five products, I would have to say this is my favorite! However, it is the most expensive. It’s great for special occasions or pictures. It leaves a gorgeous, smooth tan with an olive undertone. It’s perfect for all year round. The smell is very pleasant. I have never had any issues with transfer to clothes or sheets. I would highly recommend this product to anyone willing to spend a few extra bucks on a self-tanner.

All of these tanning products are great! I wouldn’t recommend one over the other. It’s all about personal preference and what works for your skin type and what you can budget for. Again, keep in mind most of these do not have an SPF so you’ll still want to apply that when you do go outside.

Also, if you do go for the mousse formula, I highly recommend getting a tanning mitt. There are several different types out there ranging from cheap, throw away ones to washable, reusable ones.
